Eating salt

I had a very genuine question posted to me by my fellow collegues in the dormitory I lived.

He asked me if Chinese ate salt with all sincerity. I was at first taken aback by such a question.

But after a moment's reflection, I asked him if he knew of any living civilization on our plant used no salt in their diet. He of course could not anwser my question.

Comment: when faced with people from a different culture, some of us would have curios ideas of their ways of living and diet. A normal behavior in my present day thinking, but at the time of the question, I felt rather offended.
